Smarter Airports Need Smarter Signage: Our Holistic Approach at AAAE

May 22, 2025

Airports today face pressure from every direction - growing passenger numbers, tighter operational requirements, rising expectations around accessibility, and an ever-changing commercial landscape.

At this year’s AAAE Annual Conference, we’re not just showing off individual screens or flashy interfaces. We’re bringing a complete, joined-up approach to digital signage that’s already in use at some of the busiest airports in the world, including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL)

Here’s how we’re helping airports run smoother, respond faster, and offer passengers a better overall experience.

Making Wayfinding Work Harder

Navigating an airport shouldn't be stressful. and passengers are more relaxed when they have up to date information. Throughout the airport, signage and interactives are used to provide just that. We’ve integrated our wayfinding and directory solutions with data sources such as flight information and sensor data to show live wait times and travel estimates in real time. It means passengers get clearer directions, and more realistic expectations, about how long it’ll take to get where they need to go, simply by scanning their boarding pass or touching the 3D interactive maps.

We’ve also built in smart logic so signage adjusts automatically based on things like crowd levels or time of day. Messaging changes when it’s busy versus quiet, and we can even switch languages as flights arrive from different countries, all through a simple interface.

At ATL, these tools are already helping passengers move more confidently through the terminal.

FIDs That Do More Than Just List Flights

Our flight information displays aren’t just passive screens.

We’ve added features like:

  • Live travel estimates to the gate

  • Flight-specific routing using boarding pass scans

  • Mobile handoff so passengers can continue their journey on their phones and be informed of when to head to their gate

  • Alerts that tell passengers when it’s time to move, or when they’ve got time to relax

The system integrates with industry leading FIDS and AODB providers like Amadeus, Cerium, OAG, and Delta, and it works across ultrawide multi-megapixel LED displays, LCD panels, system-on-chip devices, and standard kiosks, so you can make better use of your existing infrastructure, whilst enhancing key areas of the airport too.

Critical Messages, Delivered Instantly

When something goes wrong, clear and timely communication matters. Our Beacon system can instantly push critical and emergency messages across all signage in the airport, including routing to the nearest exit or safe area. For day-to-day operations, messages can be stacked and prioritised based on importance, with full-screen takeovers when needed.

It’s a simple but powerful way to keep passengers informed and staff in control.

Remote Help, When and Where It’s Needed

We’ve added new tools to our Remote Assist feature, giving help desk staff the ability to connect directly with passengers through interactive kiosks. Staff can speak directly, see what the user is seeing, and even guide them through the interface remotely.

This makes a real difference for passengers who need extra support; whether they’re unsure of where to go, have accessibility needs, or don’t speak the local language.

Accessibility and Inclusivity Built In

Our platform is designed with accessibility at its core, not as an afterthought. That means:

  • ADA/DDA-compliant screen heights

  • High-contrast and large-font display modes

  • Keypad navigation with audio instructions

  • Full language translation support (pretty much every language covered)

It's about giving all passengers the independence and clarity they need to travel with confidence.

Right-Sized Solutions for Every Airport

Not every airport needs a full-scale rollout. We’ve built modular solutions that scale with your needs:

  • Wayfinder Lite for smaller or regional airports

  • Acquire Studio for large-format digital canvases like check-in displays or advertising walls

  • Web and mobile tools, with new updates coming soon (including WebMap 2.0 and enhanced flight lookup) Whether you're upgrading a few kiosks or rolling out airport-wide digital signage, we’ve got you covered.

See It in Action at AAAE

This isn’t theory. It’s all live, and we’ll be demoing it at our booth during the AAAE Annual Conference.

If you’re thinking about how to improve passenger flow, respond more quickly in live situations, or unlock more value from your signage network, we’d love to show you what’s possible.
